Kiloutou deploys its sustainable procurement strategy with EcoVadis

GroupCSR and sustainable development Kiloutou deploys its sustainable procurement strategy with EcoVadis

Several years ago, Kiloutou introduced a CSR programme. Today, Kiloutou takes another step forward by signing a contract with the CSR and sustainable procurement platform, EcoVadis.

Europe’s third-largest generalist equipment rental company and a major player in its sector, Kiloutou has for over 40 years combined economic performance with environmental and human values to promote the most innovative solutions for an increasingly diversified customer base.

In 2019, Kiloutou initiated a Responsible Purchasing policy, implementing initiatives such as risk mapping and a code of ethics and conduct, which currently covers 84% of its spending on equipment. To start with, Kiloutou conducted a survey of the practices of its main suppliers, asking them to complete a self-assessment questionnaire. Now Kiloutou is taking its engagement to the next level by working with EcoVadis, which rates the sustainability performance of companies worldwide based on international standards.  With these assessments, Kiloutou aims to strengthen relations with its suppliers and support their CSR commitments.

We have made the choice to engage in a comprehensive sustainability approach, and we want all of our stakeholders to join us in it.

Olivier Colleau, Executive Chairman of the Kiloutou Group.

Kiloutou’s key goals are structured into four pillars:

  • Provide innovative, efficient, durable and eco-friendly materials.
  • Develop partnerships with suppliers through co-design, especially in the areas of safety, ergonomics and the environment.
  • Reduce the environmental footprint of its activity, with a target to cut direct CO2 emissions by 40% by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality for the same scope by 2050.
  • Inform stakeholders and raise their awareness about sustainability.

The EcoVadis platform, a new CSR performance driver for Kiloutou

Regarded as the benchmark for CSR performance monitoring, EcoVadis provides ratings of companies’ social and environmental performance through a global SaaS platform. This serves as a common frame of reference for evaluating and interacting with companies and suppliers worldwide.

EcoVadis’s collaborative platform is built on four core values:

  • Supplier evaluation by an independent EcoVadis expert, in line with the most rigorous standards (ISO 27000) covering 150 purchasing categories, 120 countries and 21 CSR indicators.
  • Easy to use CSR performance rankings and benchmarks. Companies are measured on a scale of 0 to 100 against 21 criteria grouped into four themes drawing on all international standards that cover responsible purchasing issues (environment, labour and human rights, ethics and sustainable procurement).
  • In-depth questionnaires on CSR performance customised to the industry, size and location of each supplier, including a detailed scorecard for each company.
  • CSR assessments shared and disseminated among all EcoVadis member companies, to facilitate supplier identification and reduce duplicate assessments.

The approach to CSR monitoring proposed by EcoVadis aims to create a virtuous circle. In addition to the initial assessment, EcoVadis operates a platform for monitoring, educating and supporting the continuous improvement of all suppliers. Suppliers can update their information and use it to renew their assessment and voluntarily enlist in long-term improvement plans.
