Kiloutou acquires a Volvo 32T electric truck, a european first

FranceCSR and sustainable development Kiloutou acquires a Volvo 32T electric truck, a european first

Kiloutou will soon be the first rental company to include a 32-tonne electric truck in its fleet, thereby taking another major step towards reducing the carbon footprint of its business. This acquisition should enable the company to deliver equipment to its customers’ sites while reducing its emissions of carbon dioxide by 88%*. Volvo is currently the only manufacturer able to offer an electric model in this category that meets Kiloutou’s specifications. Delivered on 10 July, it will enter service in the summer of 2023 following a test phase.

Electric truck, a lever to reduce direct emissions of Kiloutou

Kiloutou’s assessment is clear: HGVs alone account for 60% of direct CO2 emissions. Used to deliver equipment to worksites, they represent a major lever for decarbonising the business and, more broadly, the construction and public works sector.

As a pioneering company within its ecosystem, Kiloutou’s acquisition of this first electric truck embodies the Group’s determination to accelerate its environmental transition. The rental company has chosen this committed investment, even before it became the subject of regulation.

The integration of this electric forwarder is part of a wider drive to transition Kiloutou’s transport fleet, with the aim of increasing the proportion of carbon-free vehicles from 18% to 40% by 2030. By working with Volvo, a manufacturer with over 12 years’ experience of electric engines, Kiloutou is turning a new page in its environmental impact strategy.

Responding to local transition issues

The arrival of the electric truck is also part of a far-reaching reflection on the transition of territories and particularly cities. By drastically reducing noise and fine-particle emissions, as well as CO2 emissions, the electric truck meets the issues of public health and the acceptability of worksites to local residents.

The acquisition of a 32T electric truck reflects our firm belief that the environmental transition is no longer an option. Whether for Kiloutou or for our industry, we are committed to accelerating the sustainable transformation of our businesses and, more broadly, of carbon-free mobility.

Same performance as a thermal model

Based in the Paris region, it will operate throughout the Greater Paris EPZ, providing an excellent open-air laboratory for testing the performance of this technology.

The first 32T electric delivery truck on the European market, this heavy goods vehicle meets the specifications currently imposed for a diesel-powered vehicle in the Paris region: engine power equivalent to 670 hp, 200 km autonomy and payload capacity of 17,000 kg, equivalent to carrying 3 excavators.

We are delighted to be supporting the Kiloutou group in accelerating their low-carbon policy. We are very pleased to be delivering this very first 100% electric FMX 8×4 forwarder and to be assisting Kiloutou and its lucky driver in mastering this new work tool.
