Loca Réception supports the sector’s sustainable transition by transforming textile waste into resources
FranceCSR and sustainable development
An innovative initiative from Loca Réception, one of the five specialist subsidiaries of the Kiloutou Group, for a more sustainable events industry.
To mark European Waste Reduction Week, Loca Réception, a major player in event equipment hire and a subsidiary of the Kiloutou Group, has announced the launch of an ambitious programme to recycle event carpets. This project is part of the company’s ISO20121 (Responsible Event Management) certification process and demonstrates the Kiloutou group’s broader commitment to meeting its customers’ ecological transition needs.
A concrete solution to a major environmental challenge
Every year, the events industry generates significant amounts of textile waste, with single-use carpets accounting for a significant proportion. For Loca Réception, this amounts to nearly 26,000 m² of carpet used annually at various events.
Thanks to an innovative partnership with a specialised Belgian company, these carpets are now given a second life. After each event, they are carefully collected, palletised and transported to one of the five Loca Réception agencies serving as collection sites throughout France. They are then transformed into granules that are used as fuel for cement kilns, providing an initial energy recovery. The residual dust is then incorporated into the ash used in the composition of cement, thus closing the circular economy loop.
Ambitious objectives for significant impact
“This initiative is part of our overall vision for a more responsible events industry. While our goal was to recycle 15% of our carpet volumes by 2025, reaching 50% by 2030, by the end of October the Speciality division had already reached 18%. It is an ambitious challenge, but one that is necessary to reduce the environmental footprint of our sector.”
David Burnichon, Director of Loca Réception
At the same time, Loca Réception is exploring other avenues for reuse, notably by offering these materials to construction professionals for site protection, or by redistributing them to individuals via second-hand platforms.
A global commitment to sustainability
This initiative is part of an ambitious sustainable development programme at Loca Réception and, more broadly, at the Kiloutou Group, which already includes:
Systematic waste sorting and recycling at events
A fleet of electric or hybrid vehicles to reduce CO₂ emissions
A growing range of eco-friendly products, such as the ‘Loca Cup’ line of recycled plastic glasses and recycled wood furniture.
“At Kiloutou, we believe it is our responsibility to support our customers in adopting more sustainable practices. This carpet recycling programme perfectly illustrates our commitment to innovation in the service of ecological transition.“
