Kiloutou has its carbon reduction targets validated by the SBTi

GroupCSR and sustainable development Kiloutou has its carbon reduction targets validated by the SBTi

Kiloutou, Europe’s third-largest construction equipment rental company, announces that its science-based carbon emission reduction targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This recognition confirms that the Group’s environmental transition strategy is aligned with the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global warming.

Ambitious, scientifically validated targets

Kiloutou’s ‘Near-term’ trajectory, validated by the SBTi, for the period 2023-2030, includes two major commitments at Group level:

  • 42% reduction in Scope 1 & 2 emissions* in line with a 1.5°C trajectory.
  • A 25% reduction in Scope 3 indirect emissions related to the manufacture and use of equipment by customers.

These absolute targets, with 2023 as the reference year, are part of a proactive decarbonisation approach led by Kiloutou in France and across the six other European countries where the Group operates.

‘This validation by the SBTi is a major international recognition of our efforts to promote environmental transition. In the building and construction sector, which generates a significant proportion of global CO₂ emissions, we have a particular responsibility. We cannot simply follow the trend; we must be drivers of change.’

Olivier Colleau, CEO of Kiloutou group

Concrete actions to support the transition

This validation echoes several initiatives already rolled out by Kiloutou, including:

The development of the iMPAKT range: launched in 2021 to offer construction site operators low-carbon equipment, this range recorded a 45% increase in value between 2023 and 2024 in France, demonstrating customers’ growing commitment to more environmentally friendly solutions. The iMPAKT range has since been rolled out in Denmark and Germany.

Massive investments in decarbonisation: with €200 million invested annually in new equipment, a quarter of which is dedicated to low-carbon equipment, Kiloutou is accelerating the renewal of its fleet with cleaner technologies. The Group is also developing innovative solutions such as the retrofit project carried out in partnership with Manitou Group, which enables thermal telescopic handlers to be converted to electric versions, resulting in a 40% reduction in CO₂ emissions over the equipment’s total life cycle (Life Cycle Analysis).

Collective action for the environment: Kiloutou’s environmental commitment is also reflected in actions on the ground, such as participation in World CleanUp Day, which has been rolled out across the Group. In 2024, this initiative mobilised more than 2,000 team members across 300 branches, collecting 11 tonnes of waste and raising awareness of environmental issues among all employees.

Fleet electrification: Finally, the Group is continuing to decarbonise its activities, with 38% of its corporate fleet low-carbon by 2024, including 19% fully electric.

A naturally virtuous economic model

‘Our sharing economy model proves its environmental relevance in a world in transition. Rented equipment is used two to three times more than purchased equipment, offering an economically advantageous and environmentally responsible solution.’

Olivier Colleau

This approach is part of a favourable market trend: the penetration rate of rental has risen from 35% in 2009 to 52% today in France, confirming the growing adoption of this more sustainable model by professionals.
