Increasing the operational capability of electric earth-moving machines
On the release of its 2022 catalogue, marked by the arrival of the electric and hybrid equipment in the iMPAKT range, Kiloutou is announcing the release of its new rapid chargers. By reducing charging times by 90%, the rapid chargers supplied by Kiloutou make it easier to use electric equipment every day, particularly on earthworks projects.
Optimising the use of electric equipment in the impakt range
With more than 50 products across all equipment categories, Kiloutou’s iMPAKT range offers construction professionals a full range of earth-moving machinery, platform access equipment and alternatively powered tools. Supplied with 100% electric or hybrid drives, appliances in the iMPAKT range operate using batteries that need to be charged.
User testing of this electric equipment in branches and the Kiloutou testing centre, along with customer feedback using telematics, confirm that electric appliances now store sufficient charge for most working days, but conventional daily charging is slow and has to be done at the end of the day in the branch or on the customer’s premises. In addition, intensive use of an appliance may require interim charging during the day. The new rapid chargers available from Kiloutou now make it possible to perform express charging, thus removing the last barrier to adoption of this new range of environmentally responsible equipment.
10 times faster charging for earth-moving machines
By making equipment charging 10 times faster (using a 32-Amp outlet), these rapid chargers take the operational capacity of the equipment to the highest level. They are equipped with a protective shell for outdoor storage and use. They connect to the mains supply using a standard (three-phase) outlet. Once the equipment is fully charged, the charger switches off automatically.
The new chargers allow rapid charging of two machines indispensable for earthworks projects:
- Volvo 800L articulated compact loader
- Volvo 2.7-tonne excavator
These two machines based on 48-volt lithium-ion batteries that provide up to five hours’ operation per charge can now double their daily usage time.
A gradual rollout of rapid chargers across the country
Currently available in all regions of France, some 15 rapid chargers are now included in the new iMPAKT range. The Kiloutou Group is committed to rolling out at least two chargers and two excavators per region by the end of 2022.
These new chargers represent a promising new market to which the manufacturer Volvo is strongly committed. While they are not a substitute for slow charging, which offers more protection for batteries, rapid charging should facilitate the adoption and use of electrical equipment. By rolling out these rapid chargers and contributing to the fluidity and operational capacity of sites using this alternative equipment, Kiloutou is continuing its long-standing commitment to the environment and confirming its place as a preferred partner in the construction industry’s sustainable transition.
